Conclusions of the International Conference of the UNITWIN/UNESCO Chairs Program “Transforming knowledge for just and sustainable futures”.

The International Conference for the 30th anniversary of the UNITWIN/UNESCO Chairs Program was held at the UNESCO headquarters in Parin, on November 3 and 4 with the principal subject: “Transforming knowledge for just and sustainable futures“.

As a result of the different activities and the valuable exchanges between colleagues from different UNESCO Chairs around the world, it is proposed the following main conclusions:

  • The critical historical juncture of multiple intersecting crises and uncertain futures of humanity requires us to radically change course.
  • If knowledge is key to changing course, we must decolonize knowledge, value diverse knowledge systems and strengthen knowledge as a common good.
  • Collective intelligence must urgently translate into collective action through multi-dimensional research responses, including applied and participatory action research.
  • We must continue breaking the silos and build bridges across disciplines, sectors, and between academia and communities we serve to address today’s multidimensional crises.
  • The spirit of commitment and dynamism witnessed at the conference positions UNESCO Chairs and UNITWIN Networks as a source of necessary hope based on trust, respect and humility at this critical juncture of global development.
