Gender and Secondary Education – New publication of the UNESCO Regional Chair Women, Science and Technology in Latin America

The free publication, “Gender equality and secondary education in Latin America and the Caribbean. Statistics, policies and research” is now available.

The integration of the gender equality approach in secondary education is a goal that is attracting increasing attention from various spheres (educational institutions, international, regional and national organizations, government offices, among others).

This book addresses the issue from a perspective that emphasizes the facilitating and limiting conditions for young women’s access, permanence and completion of secondary education. It presents the main findings of an investigation carried out by the Gender, Society and Policies Area (FLACSO, Argentina) with the support of UNICEF.

In addition to providing a statistical overview of the educational situation in Latin America and the Caribbean, it offers a comparative analysis of national education plans and equal opportunity plans in a set of selected countries, and a review of the prevailing approaches in the existing literature on secondary education and gender equality.
